Your massage business isn’t ideal - yet, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to celebrate
It's hard to create something when you're just not sure it's gonna work - amiright entrepreneurs + visionaries???
Our backyard floods pretty drastically. We've spent 3 yrs trying to get the county to address the issue - but putting it kindly - they don't seem to care about these little old, inexpensive houses.
So we decided to stop fighting against it + work with what we got. We laid tarps down to kill about 6,000sqft of grass so that we could plant native, water loving plants.
We pulled the tarps + laid the seed before a big snow in January.
But then the Spring rains came + we were sure that everything rotted or floated away.
I called the seed company in a panic, “what should we do? I don't think this is going to work"
Wise seed lady: just give it time, this is usually about a 3-4 year process
And sure enough around the beginning of August … sprouts.
And flowers.
And bugs + caterpillars + crickets + birds + spiders.
It's not perfect. There are a lot of weeds + invasive that need to be cleared out. There is a lot of grass that came back. But - it's not nothing. This fall we'll mow it down high, kill off the “bad” stuff, re-seed + see what pops up next Spring.
It's so easy to get stuck in binary thinking - esp when it comes to running a massage business.
It's either working - or it's not.
We are thriving, or we're failing.
But what our native swamp meadow has reminded me is that we can thrive while still being a work in progress. We can celebrate what's going right while knowing there are tweaks to be made.
And maybe you needed to hear this message, too.
Maybe you also needed to hear that just bc things aren't quite where you'd like them to be yet, doesn't mean there aren't beautiful things to celebrate + congratulate yourself for a job well done.
Keep going - like wise seed lady said, this might take a couple years.
Enjoy the journey :)
